Obviously, for thousands of years people still ate food. What are some specific things they did? Anyway, surely the yields were not as big - yet, it didn't matter because the population wasn't that large!

There were no pesticides in the past but there were also not many pests and diseases in the past. I remember, when I had a child we never sprayed pesticides on our vegetables and still, we had really good harvest.
