I have a little place I ought to gate off. What elements would I need? The floor is distinctly hard. Would I have to till up the whole thing? Add extra soil? What could I plant? Can you solely do it certain instances a year? Could I use chickens to consume the bugs as an alternative of pesticides? I live in Texas, where it is very hot and hardly ever rains, if that matters.

I suggest you to plant in pots or raised beds or some other types instead of digging soil because you said your ground is hard. Try to use solar insecticide if the insects are more also pesticides. I suggest you to use drip or water spikes in this situation as it solves very easily your problems.

Chickens don't only eat bugs, they will also eat plant leaves and destroy your entire plants. I suggest you plant the marigold in one row so that bugs and other insects will be ward off by marigold flowers. You need to mix enough organic waste in your gardenig soil
