Well, it's not so strange on Saipan, an island where I once lived. It's called beetlenut and it's a stimulant like tobacco.
Anyway, it has a lot of negative stigma - cause it's this politically incorrect plant that can cause massive tooth problems and also cancer, much like chewing tobacco. OK, in this case, an ethical question arises on whether to raise it.
