I've just started gardening in my balcony which is west facing so direct sunlight comes 12 pm to 7 pm, please suggest me how can I grow indoor plant in my balcony?

I bought red anthurium twice, but it really didn’t grow and flower (spathe) well even after I kept it in indirect sunlight, direct sunlight, indoors, outdoors etc. I water the plant only when the soil is dry. What could be the problem ?
