  Organic Crops
Posted by: Jayson - 09-10-2018, 09:21 PM - Forum: Gardening - Replies (7)

There seems to be a big demand so questions arise:

  • Should we raise them for profit?

  • What are the best ways to raise them?

  • What are the best ways to sell them?
Anyway, my cousin is successfully raising this stuff - so it's an inspiration!

  A Strange Plant to Grow
Posted by: Jayson - 09-10-2018, 09:18 PM - Forum: Plants - Replies (1)

Well, it's not so strange on Saipan, an island where I once lived.  It's called beetlenut and it's a stimulant like tobacco.

Anyway, it has a lot of negative stigma - cause it's this politically incorrect plant that can cause massive tooth problems and also cancer, much like chewing tobacco.  OK, in this case, an ethical question arises on whether to raise it.

  Growing Holiday Crops for Profit
Posted by: Jayson - 09-10-2018, 09:15 PM - Forum: Plants - Replies (1)

Well, in the US, pumpkins are big for Halloween - and trees are big for Christmas.  In that case, of course, an industry caters to the demand.

Anyway, do you feel you could get in on this business?  How so?  Well, myself, I think pumpkins would be a possibility - If I'd just get off my behind and work, lol!

Considering your situation, what do you consider your best option?  I mean, just cause you don't have a tractor, doesn't mean you can't have a profitable business.

OK, what do you use on your farm?

How do you feel about growing tobacco?
Posted by: Jayson - 09-10-2018, 09:05 PM - Forum: Plants - Replies (2)

Well, cotton was never big where I live in Appalachia USA, but tobacco has always been!  However, though, the amount of smoking in the US, but maybe not the world, has considerably declined.  Therefore, I'm wondering if it's still profitable to grow tobacco.  Anyway, another question is, "Is it ethical?".  Myself, I hate smoking cause it has killed maybe two people in my close family.

Do you like to farm at night?
Posted by: Jayson - 09-10-2018, 09:01 PM - Forum: Gardening - Replies (4)

It seems sort of weird and silly - but my cousin, an organic farmer, likes to farm at night - and the odd thing, is that he doesn't really have to!  I mean, from what I know he's a full-time farmer!

OK, what are some benefits from farming at night?  Well, for one thing, the weather is much cooler!

Do you feel growing cotton is worth it?
Posted by: Jayson - 09-10-2018, 08:59 PM - Forum: Plants - Replies (1)

In my part of the southern USA, Appalachia, there isn't much cotton growing. In fact, it's simply too cool here. Anyway, I have been to deeper parts of the south and for the first time I saw cotton and was in awe!  So, have any of you grew cotton?  What was it like?   Was it profitable?

  Do you trust regular pesticides?
Posted by: Jayson - 09-10-2018, 08:56 PM - Forum: pesticides - Replies (5)

Myself, I don't really trust them.  I think they cause cancer and all sorts of weird things.  Anyway, jokingly, it's not being weak - it's really evil stuff!  I mean, did you know about Agent Orange in Vietnam?

Will indoor gardening solve all our hunger needs?
Posted by: Jayson - 09-04-2018, 11:25 PM - Forum: Hydroponics / Aeroponics - Replies (1)

I mean, they could provide food on Mars, in Siberia, in the Gobi Desert, you name it!  However, though, the price for indoor gardening is so high - it could be impractical for supporting large numbers of people in those areas.  OK, what adjustments could possibly be made to lower the cost?  Do you see indoor gardening as the only hope for human survival - given population growth?

  Push vs Riding Mowers
Posted by: Jayson - 09-04-2018, 11:18 PM - Forum: landscape - Replies (2)

I'd say push mowers would be superior because riding ones are too big to get every little spot.  Also, some push mowers are also non-motorized.  In that case, as mentioned in another thread, they're better for the environment and cut grass in a more healthy way.

OK, what do you use and why?
