What is your favorite flower?
Posted by: ZandraJoi - 02-06-2023, 05:48 AM - Forum: Gardening - No Replies

For indoors or outdoors?
For indoors, I like my Kalanchoe & Polka Dots. My Christmas Cactus continues to grow with little care.
For outdoors, my favorite is the daffodil; just wish it lasted longer. I also like cosmos, salvia, bee balm, lemon balm.

What is the most fragrant flower you like to grow?
I like my lavender & lilac. Do you use any of them to make potpourri? I’ve taken some of my lavender & just put in a small dish. They are several years old & all I have to do is fluff them to get the scent.

  Seed bearing plants

Do you plant seed-bearing plants? Do you cut back your flowers when they are done? I keep mine up all winter long. Critters still find some extra seeds. Plus the fluff is used in the spring for nesting.

  Birdhouses & birdfeeders
Posted by: ZandraJoi - 01-30-2023, 08:29 AM - Forum: Gardening - Replies (1)

While birds can be a nuisance in eating your garden, they can also help control insects.
We have birdfeeders but also let the wildflowers alone to be a natural birdfeeder.
Do you utilize birdhouses? Do you feel they help or hinder your gardening?
What about birdfeeders? Do you like to watch the birds forage on native plants & flowers? They eat the seeds but also use some of the parts for building their houses.

Posted by: ZandraJoi - 01-23-2023, 09:01 AM - Forum: Gardening - No Replies

Going from Baking soda as pesticide from @ramesh made me think about using it to wash your produce. & unlike chemicals, you can consume baking soda & vinegar. Baking soda is great for upset stomachs!
Since there are different ratios & different plants, I'll just post a link:

What does baking soda will do in gardening> does this is same as which we use in cooking? I am thinking it is a different type of baking soda to kill insects and worms.
Please explain to me its functions and other uses.
